Experienced Business Leader

With a budget of over $135 million, the City of Dunedin is like a big business. John Tornga has an MBA and unmatched business experience including as a Vice President of AMF Head Ski and Tennis, a division of a Fortune 100 company, Vice President of MicroProse, and founder and CEO of Capital Data Consulting, Inc.

A man of unmatched Character and Integrity

John is proud of his U.S. Marine Corps service. John served as an Officer in Vietnam. He has carried the lessons he learned as a young Marine forward in his life. If John tells you he will do something, he does it!

John and Deb have been married for 50 years. They have two adult children, Travis, a graduate of USF who also served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and daughter Rory, a graduate of Florida Southern College.

 John’s background and education includes a BA in Economics from Calvin University.  Upon graduation, John was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps where he served in various positions including a Company Commander in Vietnam. Following his service in the U.S. Marine Corps John attended and graduated with an MBA from Michigan State University. He immediately began his business career with AMF, Incorporated, a Fortune 100 company. 
 

Well versed in Dunedin

Since coming to Dunedin in 1990, John has been deeply involved in our city. He served as a City Commissioner from 2014-2018 and was again elected to serve on the Commission from 2020-2024. John has served twice as the Vice Mayor of Dunedin. Prior to serving on the Commission John also served as Chair of the Board of Finance and the Chair of the Waterfront Task Force. John served on other Committees including the Community Redevelopment Agency, Marina Advisory Committee and the Safety Committee.
 

A mainstay in our community 

If there is a worthy cause or justifiable need in our community, chances are John Tornga is helping - Longtime Board member and President of Spanish Trails HOA, Chair of the Neighborhood Watch Committee, Life Member of Friends of the Library and Dunedin VFW, Past President Dunedin Rotary Club North, Dunedin Boat Club, Dunedin History Museum, Dunedin Fine Arts Center, Dunedin American Legion, and Dunedin First United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees and as a Lay Leader and a Certified Lay Speaker.

He has also served on the Boards of the Dunedin Council of Organizations, including as it's First Vice President. He is an Officer and Board Member of Honor Flight serving our Veterans. He is also a Volunteer Mentor at Dunedin High School..
